Connection before complexity
A feature matters when it changes the experience. Damage should affect utilities; a repair job should depend on the crew and available parts; restoration should preserve the outcome.
Inside Casilian
An independent studio building Grevara and the Maple creative family, with a focus on purposeful detail, coherent systems, and a visible path from prototype to experience.
Casilian Studios is an independent studio founded by Carter Bell, focused on Grevara and the Maple family of technology. The mission is to bring ambitious world-building and practical creation tools into the same process.
Grevara is envisioned as a fully 3D sci-fi sandbox where ships, crews, places, and systems remain connected. That vision asks for more than a large map. It asks for continuity: actions that change the ship, people who remember relevant events, and a world worth returning to.
Maple develops alongside that ambition. Its custom engine and creative applications have separate responsibilities, allowing the game vision and the tools behind it to inform one another.
A feature matters when it changes the experience. Damage should affect utilities; a repair job should depend on the crew and available parts; restoration should preserve the outcome.
Even in a vast galaxy, a player needs a comprehensible place to begin. The ship, its rooms, and its crew create the personal scale that makes larger exploration meaningful.
The Maple family is organized around defined roles. General-purpose 3D modeling, animation, sprites, conversion, and runtime simulation are different parts of making a world.
A prototype, a tested software path, and a verified player-facing experience are different stages. We keep those stages visible rather than presenting the entire vision as already delivered.
Grevara is the studio’s game project: a sci-fi sandbox combining modular shipbuilding, flight, crew command, exploration, and a longer-term living galaxy. Single-player is the first focus; multiplayer is a later goal.
Maple Engine is the custom C++ and Willow runtime foundation. The creative family also includes Foundry for general-purpose 3D modeling, Soar for animation, Design for 2D sprites, and Morph for converting supported external assets into Maple-native assets.
These projects share an ambition but serve different audiences and tasks. Explore the game site for the player vision, and the Maple site for the technology and application roles.
The immediate development approach is to prove a coherent experience at a manageable scale. The Captain Who Remembers prototype brings crew memory, command delegation, relationships, and persistence into an engineering-focused setting.
The next game slice is intended to connect one explorable system, ship construction, basic AI ships, and ship-life systems. Damage, utilities, finite-parts repairs, and whole-ship continuity need to become one playable sequence.
Broader galaxy simulation, fleets, economies, authored discoveries, and eventual multiplayer remain part of the wider vision. Their place in the plan does not make them available features today.
